RANK - WEEKS IN BLOOM
Based on 3 year or older clumps in Southeastern PA. Weeks
in bloom means the average elapsed time per year you can count of having flowers. It does
not mean a clump is packed with color every day. Some hybrids (Stella and Happy Returns in
particular) require frequent deadheading to maintain continuous blooms. Also, bloom
periods will begin to decline if the clumps get to crowded.
The factors that determine bloom period are bud count,
number of scapes produced per fan (plant) and your climate. Expect longer bloom periods if
you live in a warmer area that ours (Southeastern PA). Shorter bloom periods should be
expected in colder areas.
